APOTHECOM ASSOCIATES LLC ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC RESTRUCTURING, NEW STAFF POSITIONS


Yardley and Exton, Pennsylvania – October 12, 2004 – ApotheCom Associates LLC today announced a restructuring of its Pennsylvania offices in Yardley and Exton and subsequent staff changes. The offices have been consolidated and will now operate as 1 business group, sharing both operational and staff resources. The client teams in the Yardley and Exton offices have been restructured into 4 Client Service Groups for the purpose of providing more focused strategic services to clients.

“With restructuring of staff into 4 core Client Service Groups, we are better positioned to link science, strategy, program implementation, and client services to deliver maximum benefit to our clients,” stated Mike Brown, President of ApotheCom. “Each Client Service Group is led by a Group Director, Client Services who will receive scientific support and direction from a Senior Medical Director. These individuals will spearhead teams with expertise in specific therapeutic areas to provide optimal strategic direction, scientific support, and client services. As a result of the restructuring, we are pleased to announce a number of new staff responsibilities,” Brown further stated.

Elayne Baker, MBA, Stephanie Barrans, PharmD, Carol Brugger, MBA, and Patricia Butler are all former Senior Client Service Team Leads who will now function as Group Directors, Client Services, overseeing several account teams.

Elayne Baker has 10 years of experience in medical education and marketing and spent nearly 7 years at SmithKline Beecham working in the area of Cardiovascular Pharmacology. Elayne received her Master’s degree in biology and an MBA from Villanova University in Radnor, Pennsylvania. Her therapeutic areas of expertise include Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Dermatology, and the Central Nervous System.

Stefanie Barrans joined ApotheCom in 2001 as Client Services Director and has managed several account teams. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and completed a specialized residency in Drug Information at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. After her studies, Stefanie worked as a Drug Information Pharmacist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Methodist Hospital.

In addition to her extensive experience in Pulmonary Medicine, Stefanie has expertise in the areas of Women’s Health, Oncology, Cardiology, and Pulmonary Medicine.

Carol Brugger joined ApotheCom in October of 2001 from Advanced Clinical Communications in Lambertville, New Jersey. Before that, she worked for a medical publisher, then practiced law for 5 years, specializing in corporate litigation and trademark and copyright infringement cases.

Carol’s areas of strategic expertise include the development of internal marketing communications plans designed to support domestic and international pharmaceutical product launches, direct-to-consumer (DTC) healthcare marketing, and the development of educational materials for patients, healthcare professionals, and school educators.

Carol holds Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia Business School. She is a member of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and a number of civic and charitable organizations.

Patricia Butler came to ApotheCom in January of 2004 from the Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she worked exclusively on continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education activities in a variety of therapeutic areas. With more than 10 years of experience in medical education, Patty has worked extensively in the development of CME activities and enduring materials.

Patty received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. She has attended several executive programs, including the Management Development Program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University in Hanover, New Hampshire. Patty is currently a candidate for an MBA degree in pharmaceutical marketing from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Working in conjunction with the Group Directors in Client Services are Senior Medical Directors Raymond Coghlan, PharmD, Beth Kamp, PharmD, and Denise LaTemple, PhD. These Senior Medical Directors will oversee the development and scientific accuracy of content for various programs and will provide strategic account planning and consulting services to their clients.

Raymond Coghlan joined ApotheCom from CoMed Communications in April of 2002, adding valuable leadership skills and extensive editorial and pharmaceutical experience to the Scientific Services Department. Ray’s therapeutic areas of expertise encompass Cardiovascular Disease, Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Pain, the Central Nervous System, and Infectious Disease.

Ray earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in biology from the College of William and Mary and both a BS and a Doctorate of Pharmacy from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Beth Kamp has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years and has worked on both the pharmaceutical company and agency sides of the business. She has extensive experience in the development of primary and secondary publication plans. Beth earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati. Her therapeutic areas of expertise include Endocrinology, Women's Health, and Infectious Disease.

Denise LaTemple has nearly 5 years of experience in the medical education industry. In addition to Oncology, her areas of expertise include Immunology, Immunotherapy, and Transplantation. Denise received her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in microbiology and immunology from MCP/Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was awarded a research fellowship from the National Institutes of Health to undertake her postdoctoral studies in cancer research at the University of Pennsylvania.

Also as a result of the restructuring at ApotheCom, Wayne Spence, former Director of Program Services for ApotheCom’s Yardley office, has been promoted to the newly created position of Senior Director, Operations. Wayne brings nearly 15 years of program management experience to this vital new role in which he will lead the charge on centralizing and standardizing internal and external financial processes, as well as refining proposal development systems and other processes for ApotheCom offices. In addition, Wayne will oversee training and development programs provided for all of ApotheCom’s operations staff.

Since joining ApotheCom in February of 2002, Wayne has held roles of increasing responsibility within Program Management, including managing the training process for ApotheCom's new project management system and acting as a conduit between Program Management and other internal departments.

In support of ApotheCom’s growing client base, Sandi Filer-Gothie recently joined the Yardley office as Client Service Director. In her new role, Sandi directs the development and implementation of medical education programs that support client needs. Sandi came to ApotheCom from Advanced Clinical Communications located in Lambertville, New Jersey, where she was Client Service Director.

Sandi has spent much of her career in marketing for medical diagnostics companies. She has held global marketing positions in both Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics and Chiron Diagnostics, with an emphasis on Infectious Disease–related and Oncology-related products. Sandi has spent the past 5 years in medical communications in such therapeutic areas as Infectious Disease, Oncology, and the Central Nervous System.
