INNOVATIVE MEDICAL COMMUNICATIONS FIRM ESTABLISHES BOSTON-AREA REGIONAL OFFICE

MARBLEHEAD, MA — July 12, 2000 — ApotheCom Associates LLC, a full-service medical communications company, has opened a Boston-area office to provide a comprehensive range of integrated services to local and regional pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. The new office will be located at 209 Essex Street in the historic district of Salem, MA.

ApotheCom, which celebrates its first anniversary next month, also recently announced that Omnicom Group, Inc., the world's largest provider of marketing communications services, had taken a 25% stake in the company.

ApotheCom offers integrated services through its offices in Pennsylvania and California. The company, which specializes in physician/product advocacy, opinion leader development, strategic publication planning and medical education programs, has chosen Patricia S. Patrick as Managing Director of the Boston-area office.

"As home to some of the world's most prominent medical and biotechnology companies, there is need here for the highly scientific and strategically focused medical communications programs which are the hallmark of ApotheCom," says Ms. Patrick. "Companies increasingly recognize that there are significant benefits to establishing scientific communications programs early in a product's life cycle. By working with our clients early in the clinical development phase we ensure that their product has every advantage. Being located right here in the Boston area, we can provide the personal service and attention to detail that complex clinical projects deserve and require," she adds.

Trained as a microbiologist, Ms. Patrick has 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare communications with experience across a wide range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, infectious diseases, antiviral, CNS, dermatology, rheumatology. "Each of our offices is staffed with highly trained, well-experienced individuals drawn from a range of disciplines and therapeutic areas. This diversity of viewpoints reflects continuously changing market conditions so that the programs we develop successfully address contemporary healthcare realities," she says. "Though located in different cities, our four offices work together as one network, creating a synergy we believe adds value to our clients," she comments.

ApotheCom was founded by Lawrence Lesser and Neil Matheson. Lesser, now Chairman of ApotheCom, founded Medicus Group International in 1972 and developed the company into one of the world's leading healthcare communications agencies, now part of the MacManus Group.

"I have always believed in providing integrated communications services early in the product development process so that synergies and efficiencies can be maximized," says Mr. Lesser. "ApotheCom provides integrated services based on high science and sound principles of medical education and adult learning, and we utilize technology and electronic media to deliver programs that change the way in which medicine is practiced," he comments.

Neil W. Matheson is President & CEO of ApotheCom Associates LLC. He previously founded OCC North America and built the agency into a major global player in medical education prior to becoming the President & COO of the OCC Group of companies.

"We are building an exciting new medical communications company, and our culture and style have already attracted very experienced and talented people," comments Mr. Matheson. "Our strategic focus, combined with a commitment to the highest possible standards of client service, has attracted a number of new clients, and we are presently working with several key pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies that have major new drugs in the pre-launch phase of development," adds Mr. Matheson.
