Neil Matheson is CEO of AXIS Healthcare Communications LLC, a group of specialist healthcare companies that provide services to support development, commercialization, and lifecycle management of pharmaceutical and biotech products, as well as medical devices. AXIS is one of the largest healthcare communications agencies in the world according to the Med Ad News Top 50.
Professional Experience
Prior to founding AXIS in October 1999, Neil co-founded OCC North America and built the agency into a major global player in medical communications before becoming Group President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the OCC Group of companies. As Group President and COO, Neil had responsibility for OCC’s global operations, which included providing clients in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia Pacific with strategically driven global medical communication programs.
In 1987, Neil joined Adis International, a global medical publisher, to head their New Zealand operations. Neil held successive positions as Regional Manager Southeast Asia and Executive Vice President North America during his 8 years with the company.
Neil began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1983 as a sales representative for CibaGeigy New Zealand Limited at which he was integral in the launch of Voltaren®, the world’s largest-selling nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. He then joined Ebos Medical & Surgical, New Zealand’s largest importer of medical products, as Director of Sales and Marketing.

Neil brings more than 20 years of medical marketing, communications, and education experience to AXIS’ client partnerships, and his therapeutic areas of expertise include rheumatology, cardiovascular disease, oncology, urology, gastroenterology, diabetes, and mood disorders.
His specific areas of expertise are strategic planning, creative solutions to challenging problems and the development of opinion leader relationships.
